To address the fears of some manufacturers in the textile sector and restore the luster of Syria's long-standing industries, the Damascus and Rural Damascus Chamber of Industry hosted a large meeting attended by leading figures in the textile industry. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Mazen Dairwan, President of the Syrian Federation of Chambers of Industry, along with Engineer Mohamed Ayman Al-Mawlawi, President of the Chamber, Mr. Nour Al-Din Samha, Head of the Textile Sector, and Mr. Adham Al-Tabaa, Deputy Head of the Textile Sector.
The meeting aimed to discuss ways to revitalize the sector and overcome the challenges it faces. Attendees emphasized the importance of cooperation between manufacturers and government bodies to achieve sustainable development and effective support for the textile industry in Syria.
Engineer Mohamed Ayman Al-Mawlawi emphasized that the textile industry in Syria is not just a productive sector, but also the largest employer in the country and the second largest contributor to national exports. He added that there are great opportunities to enter global markets by focusing on competitive pricing and quality, which distinguish Syrian textile products compared to competing products.
Dr. Mazen Dairwan also stressed the need for collective efforts to build a more flexible and effective industry, noting that the Federation works to fully support manufacturers and act as their voice to policymakers. He also mentioned the outcomes of his recent field visits to the cities of Aleppo and Hama, which will form the foundation for future development plans.
Manufacturers provided a detailed diagnosis of the current challenges, emphasizing the need for bold decisions concerning customs tariffs, including setting fair customs fees on production inputs to ensure the competitiveness of Syrian products. The importance of energy support, including providing subsidized fuel for dyeing facilities, was also discussed.
The meeting concluded by emphasizing the need for direct communication between economic decision-makers and industrialists to activate these plans and achieve the desired success in the Syrian textile sector
