Syrian-Bahraini Industrial Partnerships and Investment Horizons Discussed in Damascus

 

At a rapid pace toward strengthening economic relations and elevating joint cooperation to the highest levels, Chairman of the Damascus and Countryside Chamber of Industry, Eng. Muhammad Ayman Al-Maulawi, along with several chamber board members, met with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Syrian Arab Republic, H.E. Mr. Waheed Mubarak Sayyar. Accompanied by Mr. Adnan Al-Ways, representative of the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, both sides held a meeting to discuss prospects for industrial cooperation and available investment opportunities between the two sisterly nations.During the meeting, the Bahraini Ambassador praised the industrialists and the expertise of the Syrian diaspora residing in Bahrain, emphasizing that they have rendered great services and effectively contributed to the Kingdom's economic renaissance. He reviewed the competitive advantages of the investment environment in Bahrain, particularly within its industrial zones. Furthermore, he highlighted the exceptional investment incentives offered by the Kingdom to Arab and foreign investors, most notably full tax exemption, no requirement for a local partner or sponsor, 100% foreign ownership, and the provision of major, distinct facilities for Syrian investors and industrialists.For his part, Eng. Muhammad Ayman Al-Maulawi welcomed the visit, reaffirming the desire of the Chamber and Syrian industrialists to build strong, sustainable bridges of cooperation with their brothers in Bahrain. He emphasized leveraging available facilities to boost Syrian exports and exchange expertise, revealing a practical step in this context by requesting a list of their Bahraini industrial counterparts to explore partnership channels and uncover new, promising investment fields.The meeting featured discussions on several key areas, most notably the proposal to form a joint committee comprising industrialists from both nations. This committee aims to exchange names and expertise and present them to the relevant chambers of industry, commerce, and ministries to enhance sectoral cooperation in textiles, engineering, chemical, and food industries. Highlighting Syria's need for investments in the cable industry, past successful experiences were noted, alongside an invitation to leading companies to explore future investment opportunities in Syria and other sectors.Additionally, they addressed opportunities to open cooperation channels and benefit from advanced Syrian expertise in the pharmaceutical industries across all classifications, which comply with international standards for both human and veterinary medicines. A strategic vision was proposed, starting with the supply of Syrian medicines to the Bahraini market as a first phase, followed by a long-term plan to establish joint pharmaceutical factories within the Kingdom.The meeting also reviewed ongoing arrangements for launching the "SERTEX" external exhibition series, which will debut its first stop in Jeddah. In a related context, both sides agreed to maintain coordination for organizing investment delegation visits to directly witness Syrian industries, arrange bilateral meetings spanning various sectors, conduct field tours of selected factories and facilities, and exchange data to serve and strengthen the partnership between Manama and Damascus.In conclusion, both sides exchanged commemorative gifts as an expression of mutual affection and appreciation, reaffirming their shared desire to open new horizons for fruitful cooperation
