Dr. Yasser Aliwi, Director General of the Syrian Arab Organization for Standardization and Metrology (SASMO), received Dr. Mazen Deirwan, Chairman of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Industry, at the organization's headquarters. The meeting was also attended by Khaldun Dado, Director of the Federation.The meeting highlighted the importance of achieving fairness and equity between producers and importers through the proper application of standard specifications, while maintaining flexibility in procedures and prioritizing the consumer's interest as the cornerstone of operations.A number of key topics concerning standard specifications were also discussed, most notably:Written instructions on product label cards and character spacing.The circular issued by the Directorate of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection regarding the mandatory marking of thermal treatment on the data label, and the Federation's request to coordinate with SASMO to address this issue with the Directorate's laboratories.Mechanisms for joint participation between SASMO and the private sector in inspecting and verifying the compliance of both local and imported products with standard specifications, noting ongoing discussions to contract international conformity assessment bodies for imports, such as SGS, Bureau Veritas, and others.Intesifying SASMO's meetings to discuss and approve urgent issues related to standards.Providing the necessary standard specifications for industrialists' licensing in Syrian governorates through the Chambers of Industry, as a temporary measure until electronic payment access is fully activated
