Launch of the First Edition of the "Syriatex" Export Clothing Exhibition in Damascus with Broad Participation

Over an area exceeding 6,000 square meters, the lights of the Damascus International Fairgrounds were lit this Wednesday evening, announcing the official launch of the first edition of the specialized Syrian export clothing exhibition, "Syriatex," for the Autumn/Winter 2026-2027 season. This exceptional event is held under the generous patronage of the Ministry of Economy and Industry, with support from the Syrian General Establishment for International Fairs and Markets. It is jointly organized by the Chambers of Industry of Damascus & its Countryside and Aleppo, serving as a new compass for commercial and export activity in the region.

The opening ceremony was attended by Engineer Basel Abdul Hanan, Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry; Engineer Mohammad Ayman Al-Mawlawi, President of the Damascus and its Countryside Chamber of Industry; Mr. Imad Taha Al-Qasim, President of the Aleppo Chamber of Industry; Mr. Mohammad Hamzah, Director General of the Syrian General Establishment for International Fairs and Markets; and Mr. Abdul Rahim Ziyadeh, President of the Rural Damascus Chamber of Commerce, alongside a number of ambassadors from Arab and foreign countries.

In an opening speech outlining the features of the new phase, Engineer Basel Abdul Hanan highlighted the qualitative leap and significant growth experienced by the textile and clothing industry sector in Syria. He emphasized that the exhibition is an extension of successive successes of domestic and international export exhibitions, the most recent of which was the successful participation in the Jeddah exhibition in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Abdul Hanan shed light on figures signaling a real recovery for the sector, as the number of participating companies rose from 175 last year to 250 in the current edition. He noted that clothing exports recorded a growth of 118% during the first eight months of the current year compared to the same period last year. The volume of exports reached about 30,000 tons, with an estimated value of nearly $250 million, while penetrating promising new markets, foremost among which is the Chinese market. Additionally, about 1,000 new facilities entered the production line and operations in the clothing and textile sector, enhancing the competitiveness of Syrian products in global markets.

For his part, Engineer Mohammad Ayman Al-Mawlawi stressed that convening the exhibition is a living embodiment of the partnership and cooperation between the Chambers of Industry of Damascus & its Countryside and Aleppo. He explained that the name of Syria has historically been linked to excellence in the textile and clothing industry, emphasizing that despite challenges and difficult days, this industry has returned today to reclaim its brilliance, thanks to the deep-rooted skills of Syrian industrialists, which are well-recognized regionally and internationally. Al-Mawlawi added that the intensive preparations aimed to attract top visitors, businessmen, and trade delegations from various countries, expressing his confidence that the exhibition will form a major platform for concluding tangible contracts and investments for all participants.

Mr. Mohammad Hamzah, Director General of the Syrian General Establishment for International Fairs and Markets, pointed out the importance and uniqueness of this exhibition, stating that supporting the clothing and textile industry is an investment in the Syrian individual, a means of job creation, and a recovery for the national economy. He stressed that everyone wants national products to reach more foreign markets and for Syrian industrialists to work and innovate further.

In turn, Mr. Imad Taha Al-Qasim, President of the Aleppo Chamber of Industry, explained that the "Syriatex" exhibition is distinguished by featuring 100% local products, with no foreign products present, aiming to promote and support the national industry and bolster the national economy—a goal that the Chambers of Industry of Aleppo and Damascus & its Countryside are actively working toward.

It is worth noting that this event gathers under one roof the latest clothing products, cotton goods, and production inputs from 235 Syrian companies, amid anticipation of welcoming around 600 international visitors including major merchants and businessmen from Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, the Gulf States, Libya, Algeria, Palestine, and others. The specializations of the participating companies vary to cover ready-made garments (women's, men's, and children's wear), undergarments, cotton textiles, lingerie, socks, knitwear, in addition to fabrics, accessories, and various production supplies.

The opening was also attended by: Mr. Moataz Tarabichi, Vice President of the Chamber; Mr. Abdullah Al-Zayed, Secretary of the Chamber; Mr. Adham Al-Tabbaa, Treasurer of the Chamber; Mr. Karim Al-Khoja, Bureau Member of the Chamber; Mr. Anas Tarabulsi and Mr. Radi Al-Qasim, Board Members of the Chamber, along with several board members of the Aleppo Chamber of Industry.

The exhibition continues until September 26 at the Damascus International Fairgrounds, opening its doors to welcome visitors daily from 12:00 PM until 10:00 PM
