With the aim of enhancing the Syrian industrial presence in regional markets and capitalizing on current economic transformations, Eng. Mohamed Ayman Al-Maulawi, Chairman of the Damascus and Countryside Chamber of Industry, met with Dr. Rafeh Ibrahim Ismail Al-Rawi, Chairman of the Modern Company for Pharmaceutical Industry. The meeting was attended by Mr. Karim Al-Khoja, office member of the Chamber, and Mr. Osama Al-Hamwi, board member of the Chamber. The meeting focused on analyzing the current economic landscape and exploring ways to leverage Iraq's wide commercial openness to global markets, transforming it into real opportunities for Syrian industrialists. This initiative leverages the high purchasing power and massive consumer market density that Iraq enjoys.During the meeting, the outlines of vital sectors that form a fertile ground for trade exchange were identified, focusing on two main pillars: benefiting from the low prices of certain raw materials in Iraq—primarily construction materials (cement and stone), asphalt, and sulfur fertilizers—to help reduce local production costs; and discussing joint cooperation mechanisms in the pharmaceutical industry sector, opening new export and manufacturing channels to support the leadership of Syrian medicine. To translate these visions into tangible reality, both sides discussed several joint initiatives. Most notably, they addressed establishing the Syrian-Iraqi Business Council to serve as the official umbrella and main driver for joint projects, building close relations with the Iraqi Federation of Industries, and organizing reciprocal visits for trade and industrial delegations to deepen economic ties on the ground and build direct partnerships among businesspeople
