Daraa Chamber of Commerce Discusses Ways to Boost Investment and Resolve Business Obstacles

 

The Board of Directors of the Daraa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, chaired by Mr. Nashat Al-Rifai, discussed during its monthly regular meeting the chamber's operations, activities, and issues concerning traders and investors. The meeting focused on advancing the province's economic status and overcoming any challenges it might face.The Board reviewed upgrading requests for traders to the "First Class" category. It emphasized that this process must comply with the decisions of the Ministry of Economy and Industry, ensuring financial solvency and conducting physical field inspections of the facilities. Additionally, these requests must be backed by endorsements from the Chamber's board members. Consequently, the Board approved the submitted first-class upgrade decisions.Board members outlined the Chamber's vision regarding investments, highlighting ongoing coordination and cooperation with the Governorate through the Governor’s Investment Advisor and the Investment Office to streamline procedures, attract investment projects, and co-participate in these initiatives.Attendees also discussed investing in the mineral water bottling sector and the need to permit this activity within the province, similar to other governorates. It was noted that such investments consume limited amounts of water compared to agriculture. In this regard, the Director of Industry mentioned that the matter had been studied and temporarily put on hold. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Chamber stated that the issue would be raised at the level of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce and the Ministry of Economy and Industry. Furthermore, an invitation will be extended to the Deputy Minister to visit the province and assess the situation firsthand, especially since importing water incurs heavy financial burdens and drains significant foreign currency. They expressed hope for a reconsideration to allow mineral water bottling in Daraa to alleviate these financial strains.The Board members suggested coordinating through the Director of Foreign Relations at the Federation of Chambers to arrange a meeting with the Minister of Energy to address the problems facing industrial projects in the province. Additionally, they highlighted the importance of notifying businessmen about investment opportunities in the newly approved Industrial City in the Al-Nujaih area.Finally, the Board discussed a memorandum of understanding presented by the "Roya Association" to the Chamber, aimed at providing free training and qualification services for entrepreneurs, youth, and small business owners to enhance their professional and commercial skills and elevate the overall quality of work
