Daraa Chamber of Commerce and Industry Discusses Industrial and Trade Cooperation with Irbid Chamber of Industry

Irbid, February 8, 2026 – A delegation from the Daraa Chamber of Commerce and Industry visited the Irbid Chamber of Industry today to discuss ways to enhance trade exchange and encourage investment partnerships. The meeting emphasized the vital role of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in achieving sustainable economic growth that serves the interests of both countries.

Official Support for Economic Integration

During the meeting, the Acting Governor of Irbid, Mr. Raed Al-Jaafarah, affirmed that the governorate prioritizes strengthening economic cooperation with the Syrian side. He noted the positive impact of such cooperation on economic development and social stability in Jordan's northern regions. Al-Jaafarah highlighted that official authorities in Irbid are committed to supporting efforts that facilitate trade movement and coordination with relevant institutions to remove obstacles for investors and traders.

The Syrian Economy: Recovery and Regional Cooperation

Mr. Nashat Al-Rifai, Chairman of the Daraa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stated that the Syrian economy has begun to recover. He noted that this new phase requires a genuine reconstruction process based on a legitimate economy and regional cooperation, primarily with Jordan. Al-Rifai pointed out that the new Syrian economy relies on the depth of bilateral trade with Jordan, which serves as a vital economic gateway and a reliable partner.

Al-Rifai praised Jordan’s historical stance, stating: "Jordan has provided unparalleled humanitarian and economic support, opening its doors to Syrians during the most difficult circumstances." He expressed hope for the swift reopening of the Daraa-Ramtha border crossing, citing its essential role in stimulating trade, facilitating the flow of goods, and creating job opportunities on both sides of the border.

Historical Ties and Significant Growth

Mr. Hani Abu Hassan, Chairman of the Irbid Chamber of Industry, stressed the importance of sustainable partnerships between the private sectors and chambers of both nations. He described the Jordan-Syria relationship as "historically rooted in good neighborliness and mutual interests."

He revealed promising economic indicators, noting that trade exchange between the two sides began to recover significantly in 2025, recording an increase of over 185% compared to 2024.

Facilitating Trade and Logistics

  • Mr. Mohammad Al-Shuha (Chairman of Irbid Chamber of Commerce): Emphasized that such meetings provide a real platform to address challenges facing traders and open new horizons for cooperation, reflecting positively on regional economic stability.

  • Mr. Mukhlis Al-Daya’ (Chairman of Ramtha Chamber of Commerce): Highlighted Ramtha’s strategic role as a commercial link. He called for easing customs procedures and intensifying efforts to support organized and sustainable trade movement through the border crossings.

Strategic Agreements

The visit concluded with the Daraa Chamber of Commerce and Industry signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Irbid Chambers of Industry and Commerce, as well as the Ramtha Chamber of Commerce, to enhance joint cooperation.

The meeting was attended by board members from the Daraa, Irbid, and Ramtha chambers, along with the Chairman of the Greater Irbid Municipality Committee.
