The Damascus and Rural Damascus Chamber of Industry, in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Industry, organized a training workshop titled "Protection of Commercial and Industrial Property." The event was attended by Eng. Muhammad Ayman Al-Maulawi, Chairman of the Chamber, alongside numerous industrialists, representatives of economic activities, and interested parties.The workshop, developed and presented by the Directorate of Commercial and Industrial Property Protection (The Syrian Intellectual Property Training Center), aimed to raise the legal and practical awareness of industrialists and traders. It provided them with the necessary tools to protect their ideas, trademarks, and industrial designs, while introducing strict procedures to safeguard them against third-party registration infringements.Eng. Muhammad Ayman Al-Maulawi praised this vital initiative launched by the Ministry of Economy and Industry, particularly the Directorate of Commercial and Industrial Property Protection, for organizing this important interactive workshop. He noted that trademark issues and the protection of intellectual and commercial property are currently top priorities for industrialists. He emphasized that it is crucial for every industrialist to understand their legal path to ensure their operations and production run on a correct, protected, and sustainable basis. He concluded his speech by stressing the profound importance of the information and expertise provided in the workshop, urging attendees to maximize their benefit from these insights to positively impact the development and protection of their facilities.The workshop stood out by blending scientific and practical themes. Eng. Ahmed Ayrouta, Head of the Industrial Designs Department, initiated the regulatory overview with a detailed explanation of the nature of industrial designs under Syrian law. He outlined the requirements for approving or rejecting registration applications, as well as the documentation mechanisms under applicable international treaties.In turn, Eng. Rasha Al-Miqdad, Head of the Trademarks Department and Assistant Director of Commercial and Industrial Property Protection, deconstructed the legal concept of trademarks according to Syrian Law No. 8 of 2007. She reviewed the conditions for their protection and how to build their investment value for companies, while clarifying the essential differences between a corporate trademark and a trade name.In a related context, Mr. Mohammad Anan, Head of the International Registration and Treaties Department, focused on the international protection and registration system for trademarks under the Madrid Protocol. He explained the strategic advantages and value added for Syrian traders when protecting their local trademarks globally, which opens secure export markets for them.The workshop extended beyond administrative procedures to cover judicial and executive aspects through trainers from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Lawyer Houssam El-Din Innara, a specialist in property protection, provided a practical guide on the legal and judicial procedures for filing trademark counterfeiting lawsuits. He also delivered an accurate explanation of how right holders can take legal action to protect their products from market infringement and piracy.At the conclusion of the workshop, a special open discussion session was dedicated to the industrialists, where the lecturers answered all raised questions, adding positive value to the outcomes of the workshop
