Damascus Chamber of Industry and Social Insurance Launch Seminar to Enhance Occupational Safety Awareness and Human Capital Protection
To protect human capital and develop the industrial work environment, the Damascus and Rural Damascus Chamber of Industry, in collaboration with the General Organization for Social Insurance, launched a specialized seminar titled "Promoting Occupational Safety and Health Awareness." Held at the Chamber’s headquarters, the seminar addresses modern legislative and professional requirements to ensure production continuity with efficiency and safety.
Mr. Waseem Saad, Director of the Chamber, opened the seminar by emphasizing that occupational safety is a fundamental pillar of the institutional mindset the Chamber aims to generalize. He explained that investing in simple and low-cost safety measures protects industrial facilities from devastating losses. He noted that a minor flaw, which could be rectified at a minimal cost, might protect a worker from a severe injury and save the facility from significant financial and human burdens.
The seminar, moderated by Mr. Ayman Al-Madani, the Chamber's consultant for social insurance, was divided into two sessions covering technical and legal aspects:
The First Session: Presented by Dr. Mohammad Al-Hashem, Director of Occupational Health and Safety at the General Organization for Social Insurance. He reviewed the basic concepts of occupational health and safety, warned of the most prominent risks inherent in the work environment, and focused on the supervisory and inspection role of the Social Insurance Organization.
The Second Session: Presented by Eng. Lama Al-Adi, Head of the Occupational Health and Safety Inspection Department. She reviewed the legislative and legal framework governing occupational safety and health in the Syrian Arab Republic, highlighting technical standards related to noise, sound characteristics, and their physical impact on productivity, alongside a precise analysis of workplace accident causes and prevention methods
