With the aim of outlining a long-term institutional partnership that enhances the role of women in the industrial sector and opens channels of economic cooperation between Damascus and Amman, Eng. Wafaa Abu Labda, Board Member of the Damascus and Rural Damascus Chamber of Industry and Chairwoman of the Industrial Businesswomen Committee, visited the Amman Chamber of Industry. She was received by Dr. Reem Al-Baghdadi, Vice Chairwoman of the Industrial Women's Council at the Amman Chamber of Industry, along with Mrs. Yamama Al-Zoubi and Ms. Hadeel Abu Soufah, members of the Industrial Women's Council at the Amman Chamber of Industry.
The attendees emphasized the importance of the role of industrial businesswomen's councils and committees in both countries and reviewed the mechanisms and conditions for joining the businesswomen’s councils and committees at the Damascus and Rural Damascus Chamber of Industry and the Amman Chamber of Industry.
The attendees also discussed supporting industrial projects managed by businesswomen in both countries by supporting their small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and marketing their industrial products in the Syrian and Jordanian markets. Both sides stressed the importance of rehabilitation and capacity building through organizing joint workshops, exchanging professional visits, and successful experiences in both Damascus and Amman. Additionally, they discussed establishing direct communication channels between the members of the two committees and facilitating participation in exhibitions and economic events to create export opportunities and networking with businessmen and businesswomen worldwide.
In order to achieve a true partnership that enhances the role of industrial women, both sides agreed at the conclusion of the meeting to prepare a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two committees formed within the scope of the two chambers. The objective is to define the fields of industrial and economic cooperation between industrial businesswomen in Damascus and Amman, establish a legal and regulatory framework for future coordination, and organize a mechanism for exchanging information and expertise.
