Damascus and Damascus Countryside Chamber of Industry Prepares to Launch the Distinguished Food Product Award
With the aim of putting the executive and preparatory touches for launching the "Distinguished Food Product Award" competition, a meeting was held at the headquarters of the Damascus and Damascus Countryside Chamber of Industry. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Osama Al-Nann, Board Member of the Chamber and Head of the Food Sector, alongside Mr. Abdullah Al-Zayed, Secretary of the Chamber, Mr. Raeif Al-Sbeai, Board Bureau Member and Vice President of the Food Sector, and Mr. Osama Al-Hamwi, Board Member and Secretary of the Food Sector. The meeting was attended by several heads of committees, aiming to make this competition a defining and motivating milestone in the journey of the food industrial sector.
During the meeting, Mr. Abdul Rahman Al-Naeb, Director of Digital Development at the Chamber, provided a simplified brief of the event. He indicated that the primary focus will be on precise criteria, including the quality and compliance of raw materials, the extent of commitment to food safety, hygiene, and the manufacturing environment, certified credentials and quality systems, product compliance with standard specifications, marketing, and competitiveness, in addition to measuring the product's readiness for export to foreign markets.
To ensure an objective and impartial evaluation, the judging panels will include representatives from the Syrian Arab Organization for Standardization and Metrology, specialized technical bodies and laboratories, universities, food specialists, export and marketing experts, specialized packaging designers, and competent entities in food safety, hygiene, and the manufacturing environment. The judging committee will assign scores and grades to evaluate the product. Furthermore, multiple award categories will be launched so that other participating companies also receive awards based on their scores.
Regarding the participation mechanism, Al-Naeb explained that the award will be dedicated to the distinguished food product, alongside evaluating the factory in terms of hygiene and its compliance with health conditions and food safety. He noted that only one product variety will be adopted from each food committee due to the diversity of food types and categories. Additionally, a number of attendees were appointed to the committee that will lay down the initial steps for the competition and the core principles upon which the event will rely, and its opinion and advice will be consulted on behalf of all committees in defining these steps.
Mr. Abdullah Al-Zayed highlighted the significance of the chemical sector’s launch of the "Best Chemical Product Award" last year, which had a positive impact on the winners through their participation in external and even internal exhibitions. This experience proved successful by placing this logo on the winning product.
In conclusion, Mr. Osama Al-Nann emphasized that the primary purpose of this event is to revitalize the Syrian food sector and motivate factories to raise the standards of their products and develop them, thereby enhancing their competitiveness in local and foreign markets
