Aleppo International Airport Development... A Saudi Partnership to Boost Capacity to 10
In preparation for the launch of development and operation works at Aleppo International Airport, based on the agreement signed between the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport and the Elaf Investment Fund—affiliated with the Saudi BinDawood Group—a delegation from ADL Company, commissioned by the Elaf Fund to prepare technical studies for the development, visited the Aleppo Chamber of Industry today. The delegation was accompanied by several officials from Aleppo International Airport and was received by the Chairman and board members of the Chamber of Industry.
A meeting was held between the two sides, during which Mr. Imad Taha Al-Qasim, Chairman of the Chamber of Industry, emphasized the importance of Aleppo International Airport in terms of both passenger transport and air cargo. He noted that this necessitates its development and expansion to meet the requirements of the upcoming phase, which will witness openness on various fronts.
For his part, Mr. Rick Anthony Russell from ADL Company highlighted the significance of the meeting with the Chamber of Industry to understand the current industrial and productive reality, as well as the needs to be incorporated into the airport’s rehabilitation and development process, particularly regarding air cargo. He pointed out that the airport development will be executed in several phases; the first aims to increase the operational capacity to accommodate 6 million passengers annually instead of the current one million, followed by a subsequent phase to increase the number to 10 million passengers annually. Additionally, significant attention will be given to air cargo to elevate the airport's shipping capacity to various countries.
During the meeting, Mr. Mohammad Riad Al-Sairafi, Chairman of the Syrian Association for Freight and Logistics, spoke about the importance and distinct nature of air cargo, emphasizing the need to expand it to meet the growing demand for both importing and exporting various Syrian products.
Board members of the Chamber of Industry presented several briefings reviewing the industrial and productive landscape. They stressed the importance of developing and expanding air cargo to support and cater to the industry and economy, whether through importing raw materials or exporting finished products, thereby strengthening the role of Aleppo International Airport in this field.
The two sides agreed to exchange studies in the coming period and outline the required needs to be factored into the airport's rehabilitation and development process
